Styling Tulle

Styling Tulle. So I talked about stepping out of my comfort zone style-wise in my past blog post. This outfit definitely qualifies. This definitely is not something that I would just wear anywhere and now that I think about it, I have a very hard time placing where exactly someone would wear this outfit…

Any suggestions?

I’ve had this skirt in my closet for a while now, I actually shot it two years back for Valentine’s day and I actually wore a similar colored top now that I think about it! Why I choose to wear tulle in the winter is beyond me. I was absolutely freezing for this shoot! There were multiple times I ran the short distance back to the car to warm up and try my best to keep my nose from getting red. I go full Rudolph in the winter.

Tulle is one of those fabrics you just know when you see it! It stands out and when you get a good amount it just automatically looks divine! I am coming to realize I am a sucker for most pieces in white. Definitely a must! Black would just be a little too harsh for this look in my opinion. I styled it with a sweater mostly because it was freezing and also who wants to see a shot of someone in a tank top during winter? But this sweater has a great asymmetric feel, perfectly falls off the shoulder, and the small flare to the sleeve just ties it all together. After all, the devil is in the details.

A few of my tips for wearing tulle?

  1. Keep the rest of the outfit simple : you want the tulle to be the statement piece, the piece a person’s eyes automatically go to when they first see your look
  2. Mix fabrics : you, of course, do not want your whole look to be tulle, layering with a structured top is probably your best bet for wearing out a tulle skirt somewhere nice.
  3. Stick to one color : it can already be hard to find matching pieces, so don’t make it harder and get tulle AND a print together. Your other outfit pieces can have print, of course, but solid colors are the way to go in my opinion!
