Interview with Esmeralda Bridget

I met up with Esmeralda to shoot after meeting her at the Bumble BFF event I posted about recently. (Score one for Bumble BFF!) We have quickly become friends and since she is a microblogger on Instagram, I wanted to interview her for my new blogger series! I love her style and she’s a total sweetheart! Follow her on Instagram @esmeraldabridget

1. What is your biggest blogging pet peeve?

I think I would say one of my biggest pet peeve has to be running out of time to shoot. Even if I get out early enough, I still have to find places to shoot, set up the camera on my tripod, change outfits depending on the location, then having to go back and forth to check if my lighting is right, pose, etc. So, basically I just wish I had more time before the sun set. Sometimes, I just stress out so much because instead of enjoying the shoot I’m think how I’m so pressed for time and that takes the fun out of the shoot and I don’t like how any of my photos turn out.

2. Do you see yourself growing your blog, or would you rather keep it a hobby?

I’d say that I would definitely like to grow my blog. I think a lot of people eventually want to turn their hobby into a full time. For years I thought to myself, once I have the opportunity to leave my full time job and pursue my hobby I would do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, as time as passed I want to say that realistic I would still like to have a regular 9-5 job or maybe just part-time only, But continue to have more days to go out and create content not just on the weekends.

3. Who are three of your favorite bloggers?

Ooh! That’s a tough one haha. Top of my head i will say Marianna Hewitt is for sure goals. Someone I aspire to be and she is so insightful and genuine. Encourages women to empower other women and I love that. Second Blogger is for sure Ashley Brooke. She’s so stylish and I love her attitude towards life. I started to follow her from the very start of her YouTube career and she’s grown so much it’s crazy! She deserves it and I absolutely love how she shows every side of her. From how she runs her business, life, what’s her process when styling outfits. I truly admire her and she’s the ultimate girl boss. My last Favorite Blogger is…. tough call but I’m going to go with Whitney Simmons. Yep. You’re wondering why I picked a Fitness Blogger but I love fitness and I love working out and wearing cute outfits for my workouts. She promotes positivity and teaches you to think of fitness as a lifestyle not just a hobby or something to punish yourself with. Whitney also went through a difficult time in her life and she turned to working out. That’s one of the reasons why I started to workout and eat clean. I hit a rough patch a few months back with just life and my blogging stuff and she got me out of that funk.

4. How would you describe your style?

I’ve gone though so many phases with my style. It’s definitely been tough to find me. I say this because for a while I let what my clothes kinda dictate me. Instead of thinking hey, I can pair this top with these jeans and those shoes and not feel like I was labeling myself into one category. Now, I see it as if I wanna wear grungy clothes one day or Clean and Polished the next who’s stopping me ? No one! It was a hard realization to come to that no one is judging me as hard as I am. I want to say my style is between like boho rocker chic and casual but yet feminine is the way I like to describe my style. Lately I’ve been trying to get more into dressing casual. Don’t get me wrong I love getting dressed up for shoots but sometimes the real me is jeans, a band tee, some boots and messy curls.

Time to talk about the look! I really hope my dad does not see this post because I was not supposed to wear these jeans until after Christmas. (They are a Christmas gift) But in all honesty, I have little self-control, and little other pieces to shoot! So I wore them only to shoot!

If I am being honest I feel like this outfit is missing one thing! I’m still not quite sure what.. I have my new statement belt, favorite hat, and I love a good flare. I think the white was too plain, which is weird because I am usually a sucker for a good white top/jean combo!

Boho is actually one of my favorite styles! I loved wearing this and I felt very “Show Me Your Mumu”/”free people and that definitely made me really happy!

Easy NYE Looks

I always have such a hard time choosing what to wear for NYE! This is mostly because I never know what I am doing until the last minute. Some years I am with my family, others I am hosting a get-together with my friends, and last year I went out! Regardless, it is hard to plan an outfit without a plan. This year I wanted to help you and post a few pieces that follow the New Years Eve outfit musts : Sparkly, Fringe and Sequins!

I am really hoping to wear this Dress from Revolve that I recently bought from a sample sale in LA! If you haven’t gone to one I would highly recommend!! This one is a Chrissy Teigan x Revolve dress and I added a simple gold slip underneath. Because of the high neckline put my hair in a ponytail and added some fun fringe earrings! (Again following the NYE outfit musts.) These Forever 21 booties are the perfect color for the dress and I’m a sucker for a pointy sock bootie that I can wear all night!

What are your plans for this New Years Eve?

I also feel the need to say something about New Years Resolutions… I honestly never do them. I always forget about them and my goals are always changing! There are the obvious ones like staying healthy and going to church, but that doesn’t really change every year so why set a goal all over again when it’s not anything new? Resolutions just aren’t for me, but hey if they are something that helps you I would say go for it! Do you have any resolutions this year that are unique? Share them in the comments below!

Holiday Looks

Merry Christmas Eve! This is seriously one of my favorite days of the year! It’s such a blessing to listen to Christmas music and spend time with extended family! There is no better feeling than Christmas morning, seeing presents and smiles and eating great food while hearing “Do You Hear What I Hear” on the radio. One thing I really wish I had been able to do this year is an angel tree. I really miss picking a child and shopping for them so they have great gifts. I did not find any this year and to be honest, I was short on money so it would have been hard. One way to give back though is to volunteer. There is always room for giving in whatever way possible, and that is one of the best ways to celebrate the season.

I also want to just give a reminder about how much of a celebration Christmas really is. I know everyone goes to church only on the important days, but you really get more out of it the more you go. It’s what you put into it. You can really feel like Christmas year-round when you remember the whole meaning behind it. It’s so powerful to think about someone loving you so much that they died to just so you can know them, no guarantee that you will love them back and may even hate them. But realizing how amazing the stories are because they are real can truly mean so much if you let them.

My go-to this year is a skirt and sweater combo! I love the way they compliment each other and since I can never tell with Texas weather, it is a great go-to! I love the mix of the patterns since the skirt has sequins and the marled texture tones it down a bit. I added these pink shoes for a pop of color and can I just say the blue in this couch brought it all together so nicely!

Sally Beauty Holiday Event

If you saw my Instagram story recently then you probably saw that I attended the Sally’s Beauty Holiday Swing event at Universal Studios! If you missed it check out the LA events highlight on my Instagram to see a short recap!

I love attending events like this and they are so fun to share with you all! Yes, it’s fun to get to attend for me, but I also get to share all of the products and fun with you too! There were so many great Brands that were at the 50’s inspired party like Ion, Shea Moisture, Cantu, BaBylissPro, CoL-Lab and more! The back lot was decked out with vintage cars, beauty stations, and the best eats and drinks!

I got my makeup done by beauty professionals at CoL-Lab and I had one of every hors d’oeuvre! (TBH that was my dinner!) I also found one of my blogger friends, Alexa, at the event which made it even more fun! (Check out my interview with her HERE.)

In all honesty, I was not planning on making this event a post! I was not going to take any pictures I was just going to go to the event and post on my story and show some of the products on my Instagram! But after seeing all of the fun props and having someone to take a few photos, I just wanted to do a short recap.

What do you think? Do you like when I share event recaps on my blog?

How I Edit My Pictures + Outfit Details

I had a request for this post so I wanted to show you a quick recap of how I edit my photos.

First off I edit my photos for the blog differently than I do when I post them to Instagram. I like to keep my Instagram aesthetic consistent and I would recommend to anyone to keep the filter as similar as possible. I use lightroom both on my computer and on my phone to edit the pictures. It can take a while but it is always fun to see the finished product.

So for my computer shots specifically for the blog I always use the ‘direct positive’ preset to lighten up the picture. I like bright, fun pictures so I usually turn up the exposure, play with the highlights and shadows and add some luminance to my skin tone. Honestly, that’s pretty much it! I just like the pictures vibrant and natural. I also make sure the blues are not too blue since that happens easily with the ‘direct positive’ feature.

Here is an example of an original shot:

For my Instagram pictures, I usually transfer all of the photos that I picked to the blog to my phone which is usually about 7-10. I pick the ones that will mix up the feed content and add ones where you can see my outfit details and vary in depth. Then I have a millennial pink preset that I bought from dreamy presets. I always adjust them a little to make sure they look good on their own and aren’t too dark or too light since no two pictures are the same. I also try to reduce the sharpness and grain since the preset usually comes a bit grainy.

Always adjust a preset when added to a photo! Don’t just leave the preset as is! (Unless it is perfect) Some pictures are lighter/darker than others and that will stand out when they are next to each other even with the same preset!

Here is an example of my Instagram post :

I’ve seen a mix of floral and leather at worn by at least three major bloggers and each time I thought, “That is so something I would wear!” So, of course, I had to try it for myself. I love the mix of the print with the neutral black staple and the contrast of the tough leather against a feminine floral! This is so me! I can never tell if I would rather post more about fun, bright, out there statement pieces or simple neutral plain looks.

What would you rather see?

Making New Friends through Bumble BFF

Being out here in LA can get kind of lonely sometimes. While I have made friends with my roommates, I wish I had my friends back home here with me to hang out with. Even every once in a while to go eat with me or go see a movie. Well, cute the Bumble app. I actually have used the app and I did meet a few girls. Meeting friends is like dating, maybe even harder because you are trying to form a real bond. It can be awkward at first but it’s great because you both are trying to form a genuine connection.

I recently was invited to a Bumble BFF meet up and let me tell you it did not disappoint! (Except for the fact that they only paid for half of the valet parking even though they said they would pay for the whole thing, but I’ll let it slide I guess…) BESIDES THAT.. the brunch tasted amazing, it was a four-course brunch complete with chia pudding and fruit, four types of toast/spread combos from avo toast to a ricotta and berry spread, even one topped with Salmon, then eggs and potatoes and fresh cookies and strawberry shortcake to end it!

So I am used to going to meetups with bloggers, but this one was totally different. I was able to meet ladies who recently moved it LA, who struggle to make friends with co-workers, and just want someone to invite to happy hour! (These were real conversations we had.) We spoke about how its harder to make friends out of college because you don’t have that same factors in common like going to school or meeting in the cafe. It is hard to make friends with coworkers because people usually separate work from fun and one person has to reach out first. I would say be that person! Reach out and talk about more than the weather or a big project. Really ask about their weekend, what music they like, if they have any pets! Find that commonality and grow from it!

I met a lot of new girls and I will be redownloading the app now that I will not have roommates anymore here in LA. I will definitely be reaching out to new girls and I honestly want to try Bumble Bizz now! I haven’t tried it out, but I heard good things at this meet up so I am very excited to try it out.

Have you tried Bumble Bizz or Bumble BFF? What did you think?

And did I mention the event was hosted by Tanya Rad? For those of you that do not know this super funny, genuine lady, Tanya co-hosts a podcast called ‘Scrubbing In’ and also the co-host on Ryan Seacrest’s morning show “On Air with Ryan’ so it was really exciting to get to network with her! Go listen to her podcast and tune in if you’re in the LA area! You know I will be!

As the holidays are approaching, you really have to be conscious of your spending! The frugal blogger Aileen Luib of The Baller on a Budget spoke all about saving for the holidays and how she was able to keep her holiday spending to under  $100! I also learned that Cyber Monday deals expand into the airline’s flight as well! I did not know that, and I will definitely be implementing a few of the tips that I learned into this year’s holiday shopping.

For Christmas this year I really want a few beauty products and some new clothing pieces! View them all on my wishlist/beauty wishlist! Those are literally exactly what I am asking for! What are you asking for this year?

Let’s do a quick outfit recap, shall we? As I was driving to meet a few LA influencers I thought to myself… I like this outfit, but this hat really made it pop! It’s obvious I have been really into hats recently, but I think they can really take an outfit to the next level. This Free People bodysuit has been on REPEAT lately as you can probably tell! I have been wearing it in every other post and for good reason! It looks good with everything and is simple and easy to throw on since it’s so comfortable! When you find a piece that you love so much, it’s hard not to want to wear it all of the time! I definitely love Free People and their pieces are always one of a kind! A sneak peek into my Christmas list… some new flare jeans from Free People!
