Coffee Talk : Let’s Talk Trends

Not going to lie. I am a sucker for a good trend! I am usually one of the first to see it coming (I’d like to think) and love when it hits its fullest potential! When it dies out is usually the worst part because that is when more knockoffs and fewer quality items emerge. Then its pretty dead to me, unfortunately, and on to the next one!

Some trends last a while, obviously. And my favorite kinds are the ones that come back around. Espadrilles Summer of 2017 and 2018, am I right? The ones that are the more exclusive are the ones that hit hard but fade out and you probably won’t see again for a while. One example of these I would imagine would be chunky white sneakers. I really wanted a pair of Filas but I just wasn’t convinced I would wear them often. While I could have made 2-3 blog posts with them, I am sure I would not have worn them much other than that. That is where I draw the line at trends.

What you have to keep in mind is the quality. You should only pay for quality and you should splurge when you feel like you will really enjoy the piece, especially after the trend dies.

For example

I went to Target recently and saw a cool cheetah print top. Obviously, animal prints are huge right now. So I got my size but wasn’t too convinced. I thought of two outfits I could pair it with, and even though it was only about $12 I still wasn’t sold. I walked around the whole store with it, contemplating my purchase. I finally decided against it because if it were not for the animal print, I would not wear it. TREND ALERT. I ended up buying a $9 faux snakeskin belt from Tobi instead that I totally love! I will wear it even after the trend dies because I love a fun belt, the colors are neutral so I can wear it with almost anything, and I can get lots of use out of it while animal print is a hit.

Moral of the story, think before you buy. Every piece has a price other than the number that is marked on it. Trends come and go and sometimes they are so worth it. Even if you know its a trend but still want to participate, go for a cheaper option. Just make sure that it looks quality and will last you until the trend dies out.
