Being a minimalist doesn’t mean you own one pair of shoes, a pair of jeans, or only take pictures in front of plain white walls! I really like to mix up my style so you could see me on a Monday in a leopard skirt and big fluffy sweaters, and then Tuesday with a pair of jeans and a white tee. I love playing around with what I wear and for my days off you will always see me in denim and a simple top because it’s my go-to!
One of my roommates and I recently joked about how we try to save our money and every once in a while we splurge and buy some flashy new accessories, but still like to be considered a minimalist! So it got me thinking… what is a minimalist and can do dress as one without being one?
So first thing I thought of with this outfit was the beach because when I go to the beach I really like to keep it simple. I take a towel, sunscreen, and a hat/sunglasses. Minimalist. This outfit is simple and easy, but what makes a minimalist outfit? Does it depend on the simplicity of the outfit, or maybe even the make of the pieces itself?
Would you consider a look minimalist if it costs an insane amount of money?
A few definitions of minimalist included : reduced to its necessary elements ; it is based on a need instead of want.
So I guess the answer to the above question depends on you and the piece itself. When it comes down to it though, did you need the piece? And what is the level of need? I think my answer would be no, but it also does not depend on the cost at all.
I think it is important to be minimalist in one area, with waste. Okay total turn for the post, not gonna lie! But I thought it was important to spread the awareness! (If you’ve made it this far in the post.) Being aware of your effect on others and the environment is so important. It can be so simple to reduce your carbon footprint. From using reusable bags and recycling, to selling and rebuying clothes. Support organizations that do their part as well and buy from sustainable brands first. This will encourage other brands and ultimately people to take part in this movement! Don’t forget to stress the little things, it will go a long way!
